They have both been major US regional allies for decades We have a large base in Bahrain.

There is no reason this could not have happened if we had stayed in the JCPOA. By the way: Iran has enriched a lot more uranium now, thanks to our stupidity.

It is a normalization of relations, not a peace deal. Bahrain is tiny - a half-million people, I think. But it is a positive step for the region, driven by mutual hatred of Iran.
