Whichever.
Jill Lepore wrote a tedious article in The New Yorker a few weeks ago arguing that policing in the US was born in support of slavery. She quoted a figure in there that 66% of the visits to emergency rooms by 15-34 year old men were the result of injuries caused by police and security guards. 66%! Of course, any reasonable person would look at that figure and say, “What??? That can’t be true“. But that passed muster for various editors and “fact checkers” for over a week after publication. Why? Because it conformed to their beliefs and, frankly, hopes. Majority of New Yorker readers swallowed it whole as well.
Of course, Jill isn’t a professional journalist. She’s a little lower on the rungs of professional achievement.

OR they get sued and have to pay out of their asses to a teenager for smearing him. Sound about right?
You know, because the Wapo is cutting edge in news stories. As much as the National Enquirer.
