Mindless weekend "Beach Read" watch suggestion: "Crime 101"

Usual caveat that I don't have jimbasil's expert cinematography eye for film quality, but this one's a fun 2-plus hour watch that doesn't demand much out of you. Best description I can give is that it's a very poor man's Michael Mann type of film - I mean that as a compliment. Solid cast.

And if you've not streamed "From," I recommend it, as well. I'm 2 seasons in and catching up. Kind of a "Lost' feel with a horror element to it. Very solid so far, with the final season to be released this year.

The author of "Crime 101" is Don Winslow. Love all his stuff, both book series and short stories.

And while I'm here, the Netflix "Untold" Vince Young documentary is a bit watered down.

It just landed last week on Netflix. These ones are often interesting but pretty inferior to the ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries, which tend to be extremely balanced and subjective and give the viewer access to tons of footage that you wonder how they ever managed to unearth.

The "Untold" series feel a lot more one-sided and generally seem to have a narrative controlled by the subjects of the story (i.e., Urban Meyer and Johnny Manziel). This one's largely the same on behalf of V.Y. Though I'll note that Jeff Fisher hardly did himself any favors and comes across as a bag of sour grapes...I don't think any more time spent on his behalf would have garnered him any sympathy from the viewer's perspective.
