in order to stop the invasion of US troops into Canada?

Mark Carney built a global profile in 2026 by standing up to U.S. President Donald Trump. If some prediction-market traders and prominent admirers are right, the Canadian prime minister could end the year with the Nobel Peace Prize and Time magazine's Person of the Year.

Carney briefly became the favorite Monday for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Kalshi, a U.S.-based prediction market, when traders on the exchange put his chances at 14%. His odds later fell, illustrating the highly speculative nature of the wagering.

There is no public evidence Carney is on the Nobel Committee's secret shortlist for the prize that will be announced Oct. 9 in Oslo, Norway.

    Because nobody asked...

Canada won the geopolitical lottery and still found a way to complain. It occupies a continent-sized fortress on its longest border with the world’s richest and most powerful ally, while sitting atop a remarkable abundance of natural resources. Yet it made abundance feel scarce, with a GDP per capita would place it at #51 (or thereabout) if it were a US state. This is outrageous and does not happen without political failure.

Canada’s pivot toward Beijing and Brussels is a juvenile temper tantrum that pretends that geography is an inconvenience. Canada's decline was sealed when it chose soy boy Justin Trudeau in 2015. It is a fantastic country that is in desperate need of adult leadership.

    US 124% to Canada 114% (Debt/GDP) but...

the unfunded mandates of your socialist system aside, the shrinking economy aside that is going to result from Carney's decision to grandstand against a favorable deal for political purposes,
none of these numbers have yet to take into the account of the cost of paying significantly more for your national defense.

    I get that you're a Carney guy.

He'll do what they all do...warn of a finite amount of pain that won't prove to be finite.

It is sad because I think that the whole thing was preventable, and it represents imo, the greatest mistake of Trump's presidency...his verbal sparring with Trudeau at the start of his presidency along with the nonsense about annexing Canada (which he was doing to piss off Trudeau, i believe), had real consequences. I recall the conservative party had been heading toward a victory until that point with a rebound away from Trudeau and his socialist policies.

But Trump's comments triggered a major reaction of nationalism in Canada that helped the globalist Carney take office.
It was an unforced error on Trump's part.
But at the same time, it highlighted how far apart the two countries were growing as Canada slid further to the Left under Trudeau. From basic definitions of freedoms such as speech to economic policies and international perspectives.

We really aren't that close anymore...well, Alberta is. I pity them. Just as I will pity us if the Far Left gain significant control again here in the US (remember your "moderate policies" are far left to us.

Rooney said he didn’t vote for Carney, which made his post weird.

I would like him to respond why he didn’t vote for Carney, 1,2,3,4…

I remember he claimed he is from STEM background and seems had successful STEM career, but he against my post that encouraged more young American kids to learn STEM. The reason is STEM is not for everyone. Of course it is not for everyone just like literature/creative writing is not for me. Every field is not for everyone. That’s not the reason. That’s common sense. Anyway his posts sometimes are weird. Now he didn’t vote for Carney but he defended carney ardently. I guess it is just because of anti Trump.

Btw, Mark carney is an enthusiast of net zero ideology. But without hydrocarbon energy Canada is nothing. Let’s see how he run Canada in long term.

Putting country over party is not weird.

It's what normal people in normal, functioning democracies do. I voted for the candidate that offered the more conservative social and fiscal policies. He didn't win.

As I said in my post, after being elected Carney implemented many of the conservative policies I wanted. Increased defense spending, pro-business tax reform, reduced immigration, deep cuts to the public sector payrolls. These are all good things for Canada and all the things I voted for. Why wouldn't I support Carney? I'm not a tribalist. I'm normal.

As to your STEM rant I have no idea what you're talking about.

The comical levels of willful ignorance in the replies are just sad.

Honestly, are people just this dumb or do you just not care about the facts because they revealed uncomfortable truths?

Here are some facts for you:

Debt: The US debt problem is much worse than Canada's.

    US debt/GDP ratio: 126%
    CDN debt/GDP ratio: 86%

    US Fed Debt/Capita: $120,000
    CDN Fed Debt/Capita: $60,000

Economy: Mark Carney did not destroy the Canadian economy.

Under Justin Trudeau the Canadian economy lagged significantly behind their G7 peers. Carney is introducing dramatic investments in energy, critical minerals and defense that will open up growth and are intended to fix the problems created by Trudeau's failed policies. Even with the significant harm caused by the needless trade war with the US, the Canadian economy continues to grow, albeit not as much as it could if the trade war were resolved to the benefit of both countries. Canadians have bought into the short term pain we may go through to get us to a better place on the other side, with a diversified set of like-minded trading partners.

Immigration: Mark Carney is not letting in unwanted millions.

On the contrary, one of the cornerstones of Carney's first year in office was a 50-70% reduction in the Temporary Foreign Workers and low-wage stream applications. He cut foreign student study permits by 66%. He cut non-permanent residents by over 150K. Because of his cuts to immigration the Canadian population grew by only 190,000 people from July 2025 to July 2026. This is Canada's the lowest population increase in terms of absolute numbers since WW2, and the lowest percentage growth since WW1.

Mark Carney is not a socialist. Mark Carney is widely admired in Canada because he has taken a far left-leaning Liberal Party and yanked it very hard and very quickly to the middle of the political spectrum. This was necessary and long overdue. He has embraced significant chunks of a typical conservative policy program and implemented it. Smart, serious, universally respected. That's Mark Carney. I didn't vote for him but I'm glad he's Canada's Prime Minister. You don't have to like it, but he has risen to this moment.

Note: I wrote this, not AI.

That tracks- Carney has bankrupted his country, pushed them further into socialism,& is vying to

make Canada a Trans Atlantic junior member of the EU without full privileges.......exactly the thing that they feared from the US in becoming a state right next door(which is irrational because at the end of the day, the US would not want to inherit their debt - being a state should actually be their pipe dream).

He sounds like a perfect Nobel recipient these days. The Globalists love to reward their own. And Carney is a real Greta Thunberg caliber nominee.

Only Canada can have a person with 3 countries’ passports as its PM. Canada is not a nation state.

It is definitely impossible in US that a person with 3 countries passports can become president.

Mark Carney, by all definitions, is a globalist.

Here is your prize, sir. Nice work destroying the Canadian economy and letting in unwanted millions.

But hey, they gave it to a black guy for just showing up to work, so you know, the committee doesn't have much credibility.
