This looks brutal -- exactly the demanding track we relish in a US Open.

Quite a venue -- where an unknown fella names Francis Ouimet won the 1913 US Open, and where team USA prevailed in the 1999 Ryder Cu with Justin Leonard's 45 putt to clinch victory.

Better hit fairways and greens. Jesus!

The equipment is too good to slow down the pros.

They're supposedly going to water everything each night to keep things from drying out and making it

Was at Shinnecock the day they lost control of the course and had to water during the round.

Terrible job that day.

Looking forward to it...as mentioned, it's all about how the USGA sets up the rough and greens...

and of course they have great venues to choose from...btw, I had the pleasure of marshaling the 2000 and 2010 Opens at Pebble...remarkable the effort that gets put into this tournament...always a real test of golf...and a worthy champion.

Thanks for the link...will keep it handy.

#5 - very tight 310 yards, par 4. could be a difference maker and a great spectator spot.

I tend to agree with Frank. US Open play is about percentages and taking bogey out of play.

Driver better be straight for the green. Lots of trouble around that green, including thick pine tree.

Driver makes better sense of the weekend, if one is chasing the leaders.
