Worthless drivel that only Republican scum would say was progress.

Nothing in this bill would have stopped even one of the mass shootings over the last year. Nothing short of banning assault weapons and high powered ammunition should even be a starting point for gun reform.

Assault rifles are banned in the US.

you'll see the supporting evidence for classifying today's "AR-15" as a true Assault Rifle.

Thread Level: 5

None of your supposed documentation was correct, not an assault rifle.

I would have preferred the Democrats to have pushed for a more substantial bill and forced the Republicans to vote against it. Always get the Party of No on the record to vote against reform.

But, the Democrats knew there was room for some compromise to actually pass a bill. And the bill has some meaningful measures to include the expenditure for mental health intervention, expansion of person prohibited regarding domestic violence offenders, and restrictions on purchasing a firearm for 18-20 year olds.

But, I agree that assault weapons and high capacity magazines should be banned.

Attached is a shopping list of provisions I proposed last month.

This useless bill just lets the scum Republicans say "See we passed gun reforms and it still hasn't stopped gun violence." This type of compromise is why Democrats lose elections. Make the bills actually have an impact or call out the scum Republicans who vote against them.
This type of compromise let's the scum Republicans have their cake and eat it too.

It is difficult to get a full sense of the statute, written as it is, with "strike this" and "add that," such that you don't have the full statute when reading it.

But, at first glance, I see two concepts that are good in principle:
1) It seems to include juvenile records. They never should have been excluded. We need to eliminate our juvenile justice system.
2) It seems to expand the definition of a dealer. They needed a way to make the guy who sells dozens of "personal" firearms every month, but it isn't his primary means of making a living. "Gun sales side hustles" were becoming a thing, and it is a very easy thing to crack down on...they just weren't doing it.

Bottom line though: Urbanites are buying ARs and other guns in record numbers. They have been buying in overwhelming numbers ever since the antifa riots. The cities are going to have to be willing to enforce these laws against their own urban citizens. So far, city prosecutors have shown absolutely no desire to do that. Enforcing these laws just against the "hayseeds" and the suburbanites is not going to solve our gun problems.

another horrific mass shooting...this Bill will not likely be the last.

While Australia is not the same as the USA, they were able to find a way to use 'Ban & Buyback' to get Assault Rifles and related accessories off the streets....just saying...the mood in this country is swinging toward Gun Control.

from 2012 - 2017, I believe, 1.8 million guns were stolen in the U.S....guess who's pockets they went into?...at no cost to those bad guys...fewer guns, better safety for all.

The "Test Case" for more guns has already been settled...time to take action.

brewing that haven't happened for decades...there will be other mass shootings, if our recent past is any guide...so, IMO those changes will result in more, not less, gun control...also, there is precedent for banning Assault Rifles and accessories.
