the beautiful north coast...Sea Ranch...Gualala...Pt. Arena and Mendocino...lots of artists, musicians, etc....if you head up that way, stop at the "Rivers End" in Jenner...great food and fantastic views...(same for the Sea Ranch Lodge).

btw, hope you enjoy lots of up and down twisty turns ;-)...

That's like saying you've never played Augusta but you drive by it on the way to work.

to JH was just a kinder...and more informative...version of Iggy's and Knute's...btw, while you're unlikely to ever get into the Bohemian Grove, you can still find the same level of satisfaction in the local environs if you take my advice.

Lighten up, Cheeks...

There are around 80 trout streams with public access and I've only been to 20 so far (in my 3rd year of fly fishing). My goal is to visit all of rhem. My favorite comes out of a cave at the base of a 100 ft tall limestone bluff and then meanders through a mix of native tall grass prairie and old growth forest over several miles before dumping into a river that is also spring fed and supports trout for most of the year.

about quality, performance.. and coaching for golf, but when it comes to fly fishing, I feel like the novice golfer and have no clue...BUT, again I really like the use of motor skills AND mental skills which I suspect are needed to fully enjoy the sport. btw, very much enjoyed "A River Runs Through It"...so, what's a rough estimate for a beginner?

Related memory...was on a plane many years back and sat next to a fellow who was going on past SFO...asked where, and why...he said he was a fly fisherman, and was headed to New Zealand...apparently a prime destination for aficionados...is this true?...been there?

Have you or iairishcheeks ever tickled a trout? If you have been to survival school you may have.

But from the first time I watched "A River Runs Through It', I was hooked though it took years before desire met opportunity to actually pursue this dream. But beware, it's addictive.

I recently described fly fishing as: "Fly fishing for trout (and tying your own flies) is art meets engineering meets biology (fish, insects, etc.). I'm in love!"

Costs to get started(you'll want reccs on all of them, buying the wrong stuff severely inflates costs)...
Minimalist Fly Fishing Starter Kit:
Rod & Reel, loaded with decent fly line.
Tapered Leaders - don't skimp here, crappy leaders only exacerbate problems. start with 7.5 ft 3X leaders from RIO, Trouthunter or Scientific Anglers in nylon.
Tippet - go with fleurocarbon tippet in 5x from the earlier mfgs.
Flies: I can recommend some dirty bakers dozen flies with colors and sizes for Iowa, but for your area you'll want local advice. Mom and pop FL you shops are key.

Of course, then I'd have to deal with all those damned fishermen trespassing on my property.

Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant, then it tries to silence good.
