"GOP congressman attends gay son's wedding after opposing protections for same-sex marriage"

"Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son's marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life," Maddison Stone, a spokeswoman for Thompson, said in the statement. "The Thompsons are very happy to welcome their new son-in-law into their family."
-----------------------

Not sure how Rep. Thompson explains his vote to his son and new member of the family...emblematic of the discordant mindset of today's GOP...they'll sacrifice anything for control and power...even democracy itself.

Thompson is probably gay himself just like his son and comes out against same sex marriage to cover up his gayness. Maybe now he will come out of the closet with many other closeted Republican hypocrites.

the 'party line' in violation of his true feelings...to the detriment of thousands of other fellow Americans...and this isn't the only example...recently, the Jan. 6th Committee produced an audio of Minority Leader McCarthy saying he was "Done with this guy", yet wouldn't stand behind his convictions by publicly opposing him. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger have clearly voiced their views on Trump...and look what's happened to them.

Meanwhile, over on the Democratic side...AOC and Bernie are free to espouse their views, even though the DNC has not adopted their most strident proposals...tops on my list, their previously stated opposition to nuclear power...Biden and the DNC party platform (and the admins funding decisions) definitely support that technology...the Democratic Party has not launched primary campaigns against them...or even threatened them over such a critical issue for dealing with Climate Change.

See any differences here?

WTF logic. How could Pelosi explain her officiating a marriage of a man and a woman after her vote

against Federal Marriage Protection Amendment which is to protect marriage as union of a man and a women?

The marriage she attended and officiated (without facemask) is an oil bilionaire's daughter.

You're the reason why so much ridicule political trash talk can be consumed in this country - staunch partisan but incredible stupid.

Could have something to do with the MPA wording.."Marriage Protection Amendment - Declares that: (1)

marriage in the United States shall consist ONLY of the union of a man and a woman;..."(emphasis mine)...at least that's how I'd explain it.

Don't lose sight of the fact that over 70% of Americans are just fine with same sex marriages...I know it's tough being in such a small insensitive minority...but you don't have to stay there...read more about Senator Rob Portman's "coming out" in favor of such unions.

Isn't the marriage she officiated is the one between a man and a women?

Didn't she voted against its protection? You are not explaining anything from your original logic. You used that logic to launch the cheap shot on GOP congressman.

marriages to men and women ONLY...therefore it did not recognize same sex marriages, which is a deal breaker for Speaker Pelosi...however...she was not advocating for ONLY same sex marriages being recognized...she's just as happy to celebrate heterosexual marriages...am I getting through to you?

for or against the legislature bills that protect the marriage. For most parts, those bills are just political moves.

perhaps on another topic...we'll have to wait and see.

Speaking of another topic, what's your take on the use of 'HIMARS' rocket systems by Ukraine to push Russian forces back by 50 miles?...note, there are other systems that are effective out to 120 miles...Zelensky is calling them "Game Changers"...this 'Special Operation' has gone on for six months now...Ukraine is defending its own turf...how long will Russia persist in trying to unlawfully seize it?

Check the war machines on both sides. It depends how long the war machine can run.

If the war machine of at least one side is running out of gas, the war is going to end. Just check a key part of the war machine of both sides - economy. Let me know what you find. At this moment, my math and info tells me the earliest date of ending war is next January-Feburary. Of course a war machine has many parts, many variables. My estimate is only based on one part.

HIMARS has range (and of course accuracy), but not powerful. HIMARS meant to give more damage to Russia (therefore more escalation from Russia), but not meant to win the war. Too lightweight in my opinion. Actually M777 is more important than HIMARS in term of winning the war.

But your facade is dropping. You're starting to use snarky language. Calling folks names. As the poor headlines pile up it's getting harder for you. But you've been given a poor template to address the pain in life, so it's understandable. You're not alone in that regard. All good Tyrone. I don't blame you.

conscience like Senator Portman...apparently from his comments he and his wife love their son and will support his marriage to another man...however, he's clearly not walking the talk.

As regards your tortured effort to weave in abortion statistics...I raised...and will continue to...those numbers to impress upon others here that they do not hold the moral high ground on the issue...it is pure hubris to assume that 10 - 20% of Americans who don't want abortion to be legal under any circumstances are morally superior to the other 80-90%...that minority is, for various reasons, unaware of why so many don't agree with them. We'll certainly be talking about that more in future threads....

btw, there's no relevance of the "80/20" discussion to the Congressman failing to protect others rights while espousing his love for the new couple...stick to quips.
