Check out her resignation letter from the NYT some time.
hopefully, it was just an oversight on your part and not "willful misrepresentation" as one of Weiss' colleagues wrote of her...here is an excerpt from the attached link (which, btw has a referenced source...i.e. Standard Procedure for Wiki pages)....
----------------------
On June 7, 2020, the Times editorial page editor, James Bennet, resigned after more than 1,000 staffers signed a letter protesting his publication of an op-ed[26] by U.S. Senator Tom Cotton saying that since "rioters have plunged many American cities into anarchy," soldiers should be sent as backup for the police to end the violence. Bennet later stated he had not read the op-ed beforehand.[45] Weiss characterized the internal controversy as an ongoing "civil war" between what she called young "social justice warriors" and what she identified as older, "free speech advocate" staffers.[45][46][47] This characterization was disputed by numerous other journalists and opinion writers at the Times; Taylor Lorenz, a technology reporter who covers internet culture, described it as a "willful misrepresentation" that ignored the numerous older staffers who had spoken out, while Jamal Jordan, the Times' digital storytelling editor, criticized her for NOT LISTENING TO HER BLACK COLLEAGUES AND INSTEAD DISMISSING THEIR CONCERNS AS A "WOKE CIVIL WAR".[45] (emphasis mine)
-------------------
On a broader front, read Stuart Stevens' book "It Was All a Lie" in which he calls 'Racism' the GOP's "Original Sin"...and backs it up...I mention this because those "Older Colleagues" at the NYT have lived through the evolution of the GOP, including the "Southern Strategy", and in spite of Sen. Scott's personal history, his party, at its core, is racist.

what message was being conveyed…it matters to me who’s delivering it and what their ‘history’ is wrt the subject matter…in this case, Bari Weiss appears to be a few “Sigmas” away from the norm of established NYT reporting…but that’s just my opinion…thought I’d share it.
Try Harder Ty!
As to whether or not you comprehend it, that’s not something I can do anything about.
Not really.
