I’m sure he has thought through all the implications thoroughly.

IMO, the Chinese have no right to tell us where we can go. But, holy shit this just seems like poking a tiger for no particular reason.

the exercise, we need to be looked tough, at least to Taiwan separatists. Our politicians of lawyer-trained and political activists love to do this kind of provocations.

The real tough response, the world is watching, is if and how USS Reagan will pass Taiwan Strait. The median line, agreed by both sides for more than 70 years, was gone this time as result of PRC's response to Pelosi's visit.

a regular basis.

Xi is reported to be having domestic problems which are causing him grief...do we really want to make him feel better by bending to his will?...I vote NO.

Nothing Xi wants more than an external threat to focus his people away from their domestic issues.

Poking the panda bear should be done purposefully, and to achieve global political goals, not for US to satisfy domestic political considerations...and that means not in a manner which helps Xi domestically.

of this administration...dealing with foreign nations...especially China...is serious "Hard Ball"...while you may not agree with the actions being taken, you'd be naive to think that a second visit led by a Democratic Senator was a rogue act...

Again, I don't believe that cowering every time Xi rattles his sabers is sound foreign policy when dealing with a nation's leader who desires to assert his authoritarian vision on the rest of the world...do you?

Why do you expose your shortcomings so regularly?...read the paper and learn why you are so wrong...if the whole paper is too much for you...here's the "Bottom Line"...

----------------------
The bottom line is that if we can learn to think in more open and rigorous ways, we can draw the most accurate conclusions and make the best decisions possible for the myriad of questions, concerns, and problems we face every day, be they mundane or impactful. And we might just all get along a little better too.

with President Biden, and/or his Secretary of State?...that this trip is a total surprise to the administration?...of course you don't...therefore, you have to agree that it's a purposeful act with the approval of the administration...it's clearly the way they choose to deal with Xi...no problem with you disagreeing, though.

IMO, this visit is an extension of the "message" Pelosi's visit sent...i.e. the USA will make its own decisions on where and when to go in the world...which, btw, was approved by a bi-partisan group of Senators (see link).

The point was made after Pelosi created the problem but then went. At that point she was right to not let China dictate who and when we can visit an ally. But to continue doing this is just courting trouble.

Anyways, a couple thoughts:
1) There is very clearly a leadership void in our govt tight now. Biden’s own party doesn’t view him as being in charge.

2) it’s likely that this is related to the election coming up….trying to pretend to look strong.
