I feel bad for the people - the mostly poor people - who were snookered into paying for one of those worthless degrees at a for-profit diploma factory, many of which have gone under and now are under federal investigation. We could help them.
But in general I think that student debt forgiveness creates too much moral hazard to make it a worthwhile policy.

What I love is that forgiven debt is typically treated as income, but not the student loans. Complete horseshit. You borrow $ you pay it back.
That way we would get a little of the largess back.
