In reality we all know many people are not interested in national politics, some of them even hate it and many other people are so ignorant on basic political knowledge. Their voting only mess up, lower the quality of elections.

We political junkies at uhnd care about politics 24x7, spent so many hours of our life to follow politics, we do our due diligence on political issues and candidates. It is unfair to have SAME weight in voting between Connor and a person who never follow political news, never read Connor's NYT, WaCompost.... and never spent 1 hour on any political issue.

Bringing apolitical people to political voting, you not only change the quality of elections, you mess up the election because apolitical and ignorant people are so easy to get manipulated.

Following your thought process...how do you 'discriminate' as to who gets to vote?

My easy solution: No general election, no voting, no problem. Certainly no discrimination on

either apoltical person or political junkie Connor. Here is my idea of the solution, not detail plan.

1. Major political parties are in power alternately for 6 years. Major party is defined as the party who has membership over 35% of total population eligible to register, 18 years or older. (It de facto can not have more than 2 major political parties in this country mathematically). So, no more costly and ugly elections. No more campaign nonsenses. No more clown shows. No more cynical plays and manipulation intended to get elected.

2. Originally one day of national voting on November is transformed into a year-long party registration process. This party registration takes once every 6 year and the result will valid for 6 years. No more general election, only registration.

3. If a party membership registration passed 45% of total eligible population benchmark, this party is a super majority party, and will be rewarded to have 8 years in power instead normally 6 years. That is, the party earns 2 more years in power. Yes, it is possible we have 2 super parties each have 45% or more members and each in turn will be in power for 8 years.

4. How will the party to be in the power elect the president? It depends on party's own rule. You can still have election within the party similar to the primary election that elects presidential nominee.

5. Stay tuned. To be continued after the game.

such things like running for president, presidential campaign, even political parties... Washington in his farewell speech specifically address the party issue, urged Americans avoid party. This political wisdom is so important and valuable. Our framers knew partisan fight would self-harm our country, put party interest over country interest and exhaust our energy. But today most Americans are ignorant on or don't care what our framers intended. You are one of them. I am just trying to make compromise between today's reality (the fact we already have had parties) and Washington's intention.

This board has all my voting records and comments on candidates of every election since 2008. Search is your friend.

I'm certainly not a 'Constitutional Scholar', but I do have a copy of that document, and Article 1,

Section 2. reads, in part, as follows...

"The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature."

IMO the phrase "...chosen...by the People..." implies an "Election" by the people. So, right from the 'get-go' our Constitution requires the "People" to vote in order for our government to function...do you disagree with that?...you might even say that VOTING is more than a 'Right'...it is a 'Responsibility'.

As for GW's thoughts, I've read his Farewell Address and while he cautions against the ills of 'Parties', he also acknowledges the differences in thought and opinion by citizens in the "North"..."South"..."East", and "West". IMO George Washington was not a naive man and would agree that people with similar views would gather together to plead their positions...perhaps even creating a 'Party" of their own...more importantly, though, GW emphasized over and over and over again the need for all Americans to 'treasure' (my word) the UNION that the United States represented, and given that universal belief, even Parties can function well.

btw, in reading GW's address, I was struck by his prescience...i.e. being on guard for a party to "...become (a) potent engine(s) by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion"...of course, I'm talking about the GOP and Donald Trump.

Is the only one, out of four government branches, the framers intended to let people directly elect their representatives. Not the Senate, not president, not supreme Court judges. But we are talking about presidential election. Your congress comment is irrelevant to our subject. Your speculation on intention of Washington speech, well, is typical your imagination. I can easily provide a review and analysis of Washington's speech. But I don't need, you certainly can find many and perhaps already them. You just don't like their points, I believe.

the gibberish.

I'm not so naive as to think that will actually stop you, so I'd recommend you invest in a copy of Prof. Laurence Tribe's book, "The Invisible Constitution" and go to Page 120 for his views on "One Person One Vote"...btw, Prof. Tribe is a Constitutional Scholar at Harvard Law School and has successfully pleaded over 30 cases to our Supreme Court.
