I have a suggestion for this forum.....

It says ‘basketball’ forum. The ND women have a hall of fame coach and besides playing great basketball year after year and being the defending national champions., no coverage or forum for them! Why is that? This omission looks out of tough with reality.

I suggest this be looked into. Or is this destined to be a men’s only board???? Hmmmm?

Thanks

One major difference is the ND women could probably beat the ND men! I love watching the women because they play the game like it should be played. They pass the ball very well and they run the floor very well and they can shoot from outside also. For those of you that don't like to watch the women your are just a bunch of wimps!

Well then you don't know much. Just like in tennis where the top 500 men players

would beat the top women. In basketball Division 2 men's teams would beat the women teams . Why the hell do you think the women's teams use men who never played college basketball in practice against the women?

True... unless it's your alma mater!

I watch the women imagining them on the same campus where I once resided... in the dorms, the library, the Huddle, the Senior Bar, the Rockne, the Convocation Center, the stadium, and the everlasting bitter cold winter. They are my sisters and I care dearly how they do and swell with pride at their effort.

What he said. Sums up everything I feel about ND athletes and it's why I love them, W or L!

more than any other sports. My daughter played Lacrosse and I will always treasure football by far the most.

Maybe my girls' experience has been different than that of your daughter.

I'm a bit younger than you ('89) and my girls are growing up in a world with more sports played by women with more attention paid to those women's teams. I know my girls know that I would rather watch them play in anything than watch ND or any pro team play and I suspect that you would say the same for your daughter. I make it a point, though, to follow all ND sports with the same enthusiasm and interest so as not to undermine my support of their sports and make them think I'm less invested in their success. But, then again, we don't make annual trips to South Bend just to see a game that isn't on the gridiron, so maybe I'm not really doing what I think I am. But I do agree with Curly1918 on this.

Just don't get me started on "Lady Irish"!

But here's an even more shocking stat... if true. I wonder if this applies to all college basketball.

You either haven't bothered to scroll through the forum or you're posturing and "white knighting." There's a proclivity among several posters here towards the latter.

You also probably need to accept the fact that people are less interested in women's sports than men's sports, for obvious reasons.

You missed a big part of my comment.

Sure we can and have talked about the ND women. I have seen some of this of course. But look at the articles and press on this site. Have you seen anything on the Irish women? Anything?

As for the white knighting comment. Uncalled for and just does not make any points for your argument.

Most sports fans don't care about women's sports. What precisely do you want from Kyle/Frank?

What if they don't particularly care about women's basketball? There's another ND fan site with a whole forum devoted to women's basketball that posts all the articles about the team you could want. You do realize that they're not getting paid to provide you with the coverage you want, correct? Why don't you just post links to the articles you want others to see? Is that too big a chore?

Thread Level: 5

Some men's sports are becoming less interesting as the athletes grow beyond the dimensions ...

of the playing venues. Tennis and volleyball are already there (especially beach volleyball... albeit for other reasons). I personally am bored with watching men dunk basketballs (I suspect that is why we went to the three). And curling! Well have you seen the Russian women's team?

Thread Level: 5

Sure some truth to that but

ND womens basketball is getting more positive press and recognition nationwide for University of Notre Dame than the men’s team...been that way for a few years now. Do you realize they outdraw the men’s team in attendance many nights? Maybe most this year.

But that’s my last post on this topic. You are the kind of guy who likes to fight more than exchange alternate points of view. I like all ND teams. I like to see sucess recognized. That’s all.

Actually, I enjoy exchanging ideas and sparring, both.

Unfortunately, very few people know how to argue, so it gets boring quite quickly. The second thing is that most folks are absolutely unwilling to question their beliefs, so it's usually not I who is uninterested in exchanging ideas. You're actually doing that here, using it as an out in order to avoid questioning your assumptions.

In case you are interested in exchanging ideas, understand that this phenomenon of the women outdrawing the men in attendance is a relatively recent development. Do you know the TV numbers, for comparison?
