another "combo" guard....yawn....we need a true point guard....someone who breaks down the defense and facilitates. This guy looks like another TJ Jones type....

Is he a PG or a shooting guard?

Thread Level: 4

Both. As I said last year, he will add intensity to the team on the floor.

He won't be Ben Hansbourgh, but he will be good, and he will shoot better than he did his one year at Stanford. He's not a jet, but he will get in the lane, certainly much more than Gibbs.

Ryan is not a true point guard....he's another "combo" guard....

We've got a whole boatload of those...but we don't have a true floor general....If you look at team that's constructed similar to ours, this year's Butler team comes to mind. They had some shooters (Tucker amd McDermott), and a really good combo guard (Baldwin)....but that kid Thompson was the glue. He didn't score a bunch but he made everyone else better...and when he was injured, their season was throttled. Dayton was another example..Toppin an obvious superstar...Crutcher was listed as a point but was an obvious combo guard....but it was the true point, Chatman, who was a key defender and facilitated the offense. ND...as it's now shaping up...looks like it could be good...but we lack this key piece from my perspective.

Who was the guard, Tori something that played during Harangody's time? He was a true point

guard that was a tiger as a point guard, was a truly dynamic leader but could not shoot well or shoot free throws well, but he got better and better.

Hansborough might have been my favorite of recent vintage. Man that guy had a chip on his shoulder, but could back it up.

He coaches up at Bay City. He could very well make his way back to ND at some point on the bench.

T.J. Jones didn't play basketball at ND.

Coaches are increasingly loathe to attach positionary labels to players. The question is whether they will have players who can bring the ball up against pressure and look to pass first. I think they will have that. If you mean T.J. Gibbs, Wertz is three inches taller.

The day ND can turn away players being recruited by UNC and Arizona is the day we have no recruiting worries anymore.

BTW, Demetrius Jackson wasn't really a point in the classic sense and his teams did fine.

I like the football version of TJ better...

Gibbs would disappear for extended periods of time and his intensity and effort was inconsistent.
