With all of this talk about 'will Meyer return to coaching or won't he,' I do wonder if ND would ever take another run at him (assuming that Kelly has moved on to the NFL). Once scorned (and with his scandals), the old ND would not.
When you step on campus today, it's totally different than it was 20 years ago, and I sense the high morals might be a bit more flexible as we're staring at 30 years without a national championship. That is especially true when the other candidates are likely people like Matt Ruhle or Matt Campbell (both good coaches but without the pedigree).

An oldie but a goodie

Urban, Stoops & Saban are never coming to ND.
The best we could hope for is someone like Paul Chryst from Wisconsin.
He is a pro coach now having spent 11 of the last 12 years in the pros. Pro head coaches don't convert to college head coaches at a high level of success and vice versa.
If you are under the personal delusion he would leave GB for ND, he'll have at least 3 years in GB if he is anything more than mediocre,. If he is worse than that, he isn't a head coaching candidate. If he is better than that, he will be in GB for a long time.

What Matt Campbell is doing at Iowa State is pretty impressive. It’s early, but he won’t be there much longer if he continues having success there.

The guy is one of the leading slime balls in college football and whatever your contorted view of ND's "morals" is, it will never stoop to Meyer's level.
D 2 you hit the nail on the head. ND would never give him the concessions and power he would demand.
