... and I think there's a good chance that he knows that. Although at 59 he may be considered too old for a turn-around guy at another program.
So ND may be his last Big Time hurrah whether he likes it or not.
I know ND likes to tout his overall record but that is a "fun with numbers" exercise. Any number of coaches would duplicate his record at ND. The standard excuse/explanation has been offered that his record vs high level teams is caused by a talent gap but for me that is a cop out. He may have become better at beating the ho-hum teams that used to boggle him but he has never shown an ability to be the better coach on the field vs high level competition. You can count the number of true upsets he has pulled out with your thumbs and that is what folks are most frustrated by. He lacks the imagination/innovation gene that distinguishes high quality coaches from the rest of the herd. The only thing that distinguishes him from the rest of the herd is the resources of ND.
