More good news, WHO says asymptomatic spread is rare

The more we learn, the more control we have and as every day ticks down we are going to improve our treatments and therapies as well as be closer to a vaccine.

The fear was mass amounts of asymptomatic people were unknowingly spreading COVID. Now that it appears to not be true, it gets simpler. If you’re sick, stay home. Temperature checks now become very valuable. If your colleague is sick, send them home. If a customer appears sick, end the meeting. If a student is sick, send them home. It’s now easier to test and isolate.

I’m more confident than ever that college football will happen in the fall.

If that's the case, doesn't that blow up the notion of vaccines...

They will be tested out the ying yang and quarantined if they test positive. I guess if they test positive and then clear, there is a tiny chance they could be reinfected but that remains to be seen.

More testing, more cases. This was always part of the deal

Staph is notorious for being in most lockers rooms and extremely deadly...Killing 25,000-40,000 yearly.

Yet, they've never stopped a season when a player is positive for staph. Because most young adults have this thing called a thriving immune system.

Covid has consistently shown in previous seasons and definitely during this major outbreak to be most notably affecting the elderly. Not 18-22yr olds.

These kids show up with a number of other highly contagious disease, some deadly, many with no known cure or vaccine, and it's sit them out and keep it pushing.

This is more aesthetics and the visual than the actual. No school or conference is going to push the narrative that we should be fine if we just follow the most stringent protocol and what most

health orgs and the surgeon general said from the jump....

"The most effective strategy against the spread of covid-19 is thorough handwashing."

I get safety first but these measures have proven to be anything but ineffective and more damaging.

I am not expecting any collegiate season to happen until there's a vaccine.

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Come on Shorts. If that's the criteria, we may not have a 2021 season either. A treatment is the key

It should not change anything. Those kids did not get it from other players, they already had it

when they showed up and were tested. Same when students return. This was to be expected. They will be quarantined and then be allowed to resume their normal activities.

Thread Level: 2

So, then, what percentage of the overall student population is positive?

Quite a few who have or had it will turn out completely asymptomatic.

Yes, I think the asymptomatic in that age bracket is a significant percentage...

As per mayoclinic, cdc, johns hopkins - "Most people with COVID-19 have mild to moderate symptoms and many having none at all; what's called asymptomatic. Older adults or people with existing chronic medical conditions are at greater risk of becoming seriously ill with COVID-19."

It's really unfortunate that it affects our older folks so adversely but that's not uncommon when it comes to their immune system.

Normally not an issue with that age group unless there is an underlying condition also in play.

make it happen.

I also would bet that the leading Google search coming out of those schools right now is “steroid use with COVID”.

Pretty much all asymptomatic cases in that age range. But the universities are so spooked by this that undoubtedly at least several teams will have so many cases that they won't play. And can you imagine a team with a dozen infected players during the season? Many games will be canceled. I really don't think the season will be completed if it is started. And if there is no vaccine or effective treatment by Sept. 2021, that season might be in jeopardy, too.
