Poor RB play has more to do with poor line play and poor play design

than anything else. ND may not have great backs but they were constantly being undone by poor line blocking a frankly ND telegraphing the play to the defense.
On the odd occasion, like once a back broke out for a big gainer.

Sometimes I feel as though the big surprise is a five yard gain with this team. There just has to be better play design and better cloaking of running plays.

Can't be a strong run team

if you don't practice running the ball. ND has more than enough size and talent to be an excellent running team against 95% of their opponents. The offensive genius simply wants to try and out think the Navy's of the world versus simply bludgeoning them to death.

Adams and Prosise weren't 5 star world beaters

They and others have had amazing success with this system. I think we are in for a few nice surprises this year with this depth being the key.

Ross Browner should have won the heisman

I think Prosise benefited from being an unknown with ability.

Defenses weren’t really ready for his use in the offense. I still think Kelly could have used his talents more and more often. Adams was pretty good and a bit lucky plus the OLine was really very good.

I still think Kelly needs to do a far better job in play design, play calling and disguising the run plays. ND is always caught flat footed in run plays especially short yardage situations.

Josh Adams and Dexter Williams for example. Notre-Dame doesn't have one right now.

Tyree is a freshman, but he's fast as hell with a great inside run game. Watch some film on this kid. He's going to play a lot this year. I also think Kyren Williams will open some eyes and don't sleep on C'bo. We have players that we need to have a successful running game.

Wholeheartedly agree DMF. The glass is 3/4 full and the water is running back.

and everyone else is pretty much unproven.

Not comparing him to Rocket since he hasn't played a game yet, but speed kills.

Horrible example. Rocket averaged fewer than 6 carries per game.

And many of those were on reverses. He'd have never lasted had he received a running back's load of carries.

As a full time running back, yes.

and I agree that he shouldn’t be expected to get 15-20 carries a game. When he does touch the ball, big things are expected.

My response above was to the “no decent running backs” comment. We have plenty of “decent” running backs. It’s up to the coaches to get one, two, or three of them to emerge and I think they will.
