We ran between the tackles on first down on the first four drives of the game.
We kept getting stuffed, but we kept doing it.
Earth to Tommy Rees: throw the damn ball on first down!
Now we know we can't.
I don't mind trying to set the tone in the first four drives. But, unfortunately, we just revealed that we still cannot run at will. I'm always amused when people predict that we will "pound the ball" every preseason. I always hope they are right, but they never are.
Use the strengths of your team not what you wish to do. Seems like an obvious statement but always overlooked at ND on the offensive side of the ball. This is the glaring frustration with Brian Kelly offenses. Clark Lea seems to embrace this and is left to do as he chooses, but Brian will not allow the same for the offense. Leaving us to bicker and moan on these boards.
When do you think Kelly 3.0 will arrive? This would include a resolution to the above.
