On the 1966 national championship team Hall of Farmer and future Minnesota SC justice Alan Page was the only African American who saw the field for the Irish. Of course, not a lot of African Americans are Catholic because we were never plantation owners. But our profoundly Christian ideals always made ND a leader in terms of supporting civil rights and social justice. Nowadays our student body and our athletic teams are far more diverse. However, it appears that other teams still try to use old stereotypes against us. Glad to see it did not work.

This according to Bryan Driskell on the radio the other night. Apparently, USC was using negative racial diversity numbers between USC and ND as a program and a university. Trying to jump on the current social movement and use it to their advantage. Saying ND wasn't all that diverse. He said ND recruiting and South Bend Trib insider, Carter Karels, has a piece in more detail about the subject. It seems like BK and his staff responded to the USC lies with actual facts and did a great job.
In this day and age, this could be a real advantage.
