Bye Week Thoughts: Defense

Carolina has scored 59,56,44,48,31 and 56 in their last six games. 59 and 56 being their last two. They have two RBs in the top ten rushing. Sam Howell is highly ranked in all passing categories. Irish "D" has given up a point or two the last two games. Buck LB still a question mark. Should there be real concern going into the Carolina game? Do wee see this as the last team with the ball wins? Matching score for score? Defense takes a holiday? Or, with the time off, Irish defense shows us early season form again.

Same strategy as Clemson - take away the run - make them throw

If we make them 1 dimensional by taking away the run our D-line and rush will eventually wear them down and get sacks. On offense a balanced attack which must end in TDs to get up early and force them to play catch up. ND can win in a shoot out, but it won’t be because we should be up by 14-17 pts by halftime. Go watch the highlights from UNC/WF game no defense at all on the field, looked like a big 12 game.

Their problem is their defense which will allow us to control the ball. All we need are some stops,

which I am confident we get, and we will win. Some turnovers would be nice too. They will look pretty at times but I am confident we will stop them enough.

As long as we take care of the ball, we'll be fine

We can't get sloppy like we did against BC, though. I don't blame the D for BC having scored 31 points, since the offensive fumbles put us in some pretty bad straits.

With a week to prepare, Lea will have a strong game plan for North Carolina. That is the strength of this D... we have the athletes to game plan and adjust in so many different ways. JOK, Hamilton, Crawford, drop ends, defensive line rotation.... we can game plan to stop anyone.

I see the outcome similar to BC. Maybe a few big plays where they outplay us, but for the most part we dominate the line of scrimmage and constant pressure from all angles. NC will not even get close to their average points per game!

categorical statements that something will happen for certain will almost always come back to bite you in the ass as history as shown.

We have watched a Coach Lea coached defense enough to be confident that this team will be ready for North Carolina. That is my point.

I will accept your apology next Friday night.
