It was wonderful to see, ND took their hearts.
Some of the most stupid coaching I have ever seen ! But, we dominated on defense and I guess they threw in the towel !
We were up two scores one way or the other, and there simply wasn't enough time to make it happen.
If he were going to call the timeout, it should have been on the drive when we were just one score up.
He knew that his defense was absolutely gassed, and our offense was really picking up a lot of steam. That last drive gave me a taste of the 1992 team, when we would simply blast giant holes in opposing defensive front sevens, and Jerome Bettis would have a field day grabbing 7-8 yards at a time at the end.
You call the time outs and try to keep ND to a FG if you can. Give yourself time to try for a quick TD and then and onsides kick. Then a FG to tie or a TD to win.
Sure, it's a long shot, especially as well as ND's defense was playing. But, you don't throw in the towel while there is still a bit of a chance.

It was over.
They needed a stop, but regardless, they needed as much time as possible to mount any miracle finish
