Folks - It's time to realize Kelly as a Big Time Coach

I was at ND back in 78 - Devine was not a great coach - players won in spite him , not because him. Holtz great motivator - great game day coach but still had the green light as far as recruiting. Kelly is not the most dynamic nor the most inspirational, BUT he has made us relevant! he has recruited
speed he has brought in quality kids - we have to realize how the game (and society) has changed we should be grateful for what Brian Kelly and his personal abilitiy to adapt has benefitted our Irish . I do appreciate him Appreciate our times - we are relevant again!

...but not one of the absolute best such as a Saban, Meyer, etc.

If he wins a championship, then he deserves to be in that same category.

I do agree that he has become a much better coach, and that he's one of the best, but not in that "best of the best" category just yet.

He's proven that he can have us contending for a top 10 finish each year, and that he can get us to the playoffs at times. However, he still has to win the big one to be in that upper echelon of tiers. He has learned from his past mistakes, and was actually pretty fortunate that the Notre Dame Board of Trustees gave him a chance after 2016. Once he got rid of the dead weight, the program really improved to the point where we are no longer an automatic doormat for the elite.

not yet. we'll see in a few weeks how good he is.

He MAY win a NC - no guarantees - hardest job in college football - ND has become very liberal - he has to dance that dance: how are you old school and still woke? I''m not sure.
Don't ever forget ND can only recruit 1/3 of the highest rated recruits in the country - not a negative - have you ever been more proud when our players are interviewed on tv - no "you knows" and ghetto.I'm old school- graduated in 79- but in my opinion Kelly has done agreat job against formidible odds

school has become so liberal. Kelly has to overcome the fact that ND wants to be Ivy League. Why would anyone want to become Ivy League? You are dead on about Devine also.

Coaching at ND isn't as easy as it is with other places that are willing to cede complete control over the football program. The Notre Dame Board of Trustees would never give any coach that kind of power, which is why someone the likes of Saban or Meyer wouldn't come here.

Given the higher hurdles he has had to face, I think Brian Kelly has finally turned into the excellent, and even great coach that we were hoping he would be, but for him to become one of the greatest will still require that championship.

We would have easily defeated Kansas State, and probably been an even matchup for Oregon had neither of them choked at the last second.

Unfortunately for us, Alabama was easily the best team in the nation that year, and when give that second chance, they certainly made the best of it.

Winning a national title is vital.

Kelly can win 200 games and not be considered great.

That's fair brother - however the game has changed - give credit to the old fogey Kelly - he has adapted - no stupid slogans on the back of jerseys -the black kids still love and respect ND - a fine tightrope he has walked - do you think Lou could adapt to these tumultous times?
