I think Autry was one of our best without breakaway speed. Reggie Brooks and Jerome Bettis the most gifted but Autry finished runs well and made the first guy miss all the time. He could cut on a dime and finished by knocking over defenders. Yes, Kyren is just like him!
Reggie Brooks ran a legit 4.40 in the 40 yard dash, and was one insanely strong fellow for his size. I remember seeing him at the Loftus bench pressing 400 pounds, and not straining. He was also one of the most difficult guys to tackle, since he could out run you, spin away, juke like nobody else, or flat-out run over you.
He never got tired during the game, since that mammoth offensive line was blasting holes in the opposing front sevens that you or I could easily run through. Running over defensive backs is much easier than linebackers or linemen...
That being said, I think Kyren Williams will have a better pro career. He's a better route runner, and has better pass catching hands than Reggie Brooks did. To say that Reggie Brooks was the last choice of a receiver during the 2 point conversion against Penn State in 1992 was an understatement.
Also KW does have some speed, I don't know what his 40 is but he's not slow...
Aside...My favorite play ever is Reggie Brooks vs Michigan where he just kept taking hits and spinning out of them before getting knocked out while falling over the goalline.
