I feel like we're right there with Clemson and Ohio State but still looking up at Bama (like everyone else). And it seems like that's good enough for a substantial part of the fanbase.
This team is a joy to watch. I love stuffing the run and then being able to run down the opposition's throat, to ice a game. It's a thing of beauty.
That said, I'd still be very apprehensive about a playoff or championship matchup with Bama. My thought is that they'd neutralize the advantage that we've had against everyone else in the trenches and would beat us (perhaps handily) with their superior skill players. Is that an unreasonable thought?
I am glad to see that we're bringing in a few 4-star WRs in this incoming recruiting class. I think if we can hold on to Clark Lea and a couple of those receivers turn out to be studs, we might just reach Bama's level.
...Bama is a minor league for the pros, not really a college program. But you say we're right with Clemson, who themselves beat Bama 2 years ago. So...we could beat Bama, but like 4/10 times. Would be nice if they didn't have another 2012 (which I was present for), though.
On a good day ND could hang with them.
