He is an OK coach who has been put in some bad positions

Clearly not head coaching material after the debacle at UCONN, but the guy could succeed in the right role. He was setup to fail at Nebraska and Purdue.

How far along is cloning technology? Can we wish Lea well at Vandy, and move forward with Lea 2.0?

I'm a big fan of Lea is really what I'm saying.

If anybody saw the movie "Multiplicity" w/ Michael Keaton, the cloning thing doesn't work.

No doubt, Bob Diaco had some good years here as a defensive coordinator. Then again, he did have quite an impressive stockpile of defensive talent to work with.

If he were really that good of a defensive coordinator, I would have to assume that someone would have wanted to retain him as a DC after he had been fired from his job at Connecticut.

He has had one year stints a Nebraska, Oklahoma, Louisiana Tech, and Purdue, in some form or another, but none of them wanted to retain him as a DC for more than a year. That, right away, should say something about his true potential.

Indeed. We don't have the personnel to run a 3-4 anyways.

If you don't have a powerful nose tackle, and larger defensive ends who can reasonably catch up to a running back, then it's an exercise in futility.

It was a different matter entirely, back when we had Big Louis "Irish Chocolate" Nix at nose tackle, a nearly 300 lb Stephon Tuitt at one defensive end, and a 300 lb Kapron Lewis-Moore at the other defensive end position. Each of those guys could command a double team, leaving one of them able to take advantage of a one on one matchup, or it would take away the opposing offense's ability to send out the tight end in a pass play.

Well, Jamie below did want someone with prior head coaching experience to be more like Alabama
