For most of the season, he was extremely reliable. Every time he lined up to make a crucial field goal, whether it be long or short, I felt great about his chances.
The last few games, though, he's been missing badly. The snaps and holds have been spot on, but for some reason, he's not striking the ball squarely like he normally does.
I do hope he can get things ironed out. Maybe the miss on Saturday doesn't make a difference, but when his inability to make a shorter range field goal made us go for it on 4th down (and fail to convert), that's six points that were left on the board. Going in down by two scores at half time is a much different feeling than being down by three.
With Josh Bryan coming in next year, I'm not so sure that Doerer gets a 5th year, if he doesn't snap out of this funk.
