Does kelly breaking Rockne's record bother anybody?

Jacko wants to be able to say he presided over the winningest football and hoops coaches in ND history.

Jenks wants more gilded buildings.

Neither of them give a crap about the people who built the program.

kelly gets a statue if he's the winningest coach.

Pathetic.

If he hadn't broken it, then that would have meant that we would have lost more games along the way.

It should have been broken earlier, but his stubbornness to adapt and his blind loyalty to some cancers on the staff and roster delayed it.

To put it this way, I would guess that there were at least 12 wins left on the table from 2014 through 2016, thanks to the incompetence of Brian Van Gorder, and to a slightly lesser degree, the shitty strength and conditioning program that Paul Longo had in place.

Also Kelly can't tie it (then break it) until next year with the loss to Clemson

No reason to be bothered by it.

He stuck around long enough, and enjoyed easy schedules.

He's not a championship coach.

who played against ND in those days was not even in the same Universe as the overall competition today.

No, I am not claiming Kelly is the second coming of Rockne, Leahy or Ara. But I would certainly put him up against Devine, who did manage to win a National Championship.

I’m saying this as someone whose Great Uncle played for ND under Rockne and he told me they had tougher games on Sundays playing semi pro in Chicago for $25 under assumed names than they had on Saturdays ;)

Untrue. Rockne went coast to coast playing many top teams.

Bowl games were limited to two or three games back in Rock's era. No Pinstripe Bowl. No Camping World Bowl or whatever the hell it's called. No Music City Bowl. No Champs Bowl. The major traditional bowls that BK has coached, he lost. BCS title game, Fiesta, and Cotton. BK has coached against and beaten more that a few "dogs" during his career at ND. New Mexico, Bowling Green, UMass, a two win Temple. There are plenty other 2 and 3 win teams that were beaten by BK. You can't take a 1920 type schedule and compare it by today's standard. BKs wins have been against bad teams, mediocre teams, decent /good teams, and a couple of very good teams. Wins are wins and BK could only play the schedule he was given, just like Rock. No NC. No statue. No major bowl win. No statue.

an eighth grader and was paid $18 per game on the weekends, during the Depression! He could have signed a pro baseball contract but his parents did not like the lifestyle of baseball players at that time, just like Lou Gehrig's. He was a catcher and built like Yogi Berra, but never got a chance. His football coach at the time said he was the best blocking back they ever had. Yeah that's right "blocking back".

BUT! in 11 freakin years that is honestly the only win we can point to as a great win and it was against a depleted version of that team.

Far too many BIG downs compared to this lone BIG up to really think it was worthwhile to keep him so long past 5 yrs.
