"Against elite teams in 2020 the goal has to be to outscore your opponent and nothing else. In six years of the College Football Playoff, the winner of the championship game has scored over forty points four times and under thirty points just once." Even coach Saban understands that winning involves a lot of scoring.

down, but with lesser athletes you have to control the clock somewhat. If the defensive line stacks though, then short passes on early downs are necessary to both effectively control the clock while being somewhat aggressive. This enables you to more effectively keep the opponent on their heals or at least keep them off balance by having to cover both the run and the pass.

his offensive mind, nor Rees', is creative enough to score a lot of points. As others have noted on this board and other websites, Kelly is going to do what Kelly does, and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Over the offseason Kelly should ask Lane Kiffin if he can borrow Kiffin's research notes:

Nick Saban on Lane Kiffin: "I think we all grew together in the whole RPO-spread world. That was new for all of us. [Kiffin] Did a lot of research on it, did a great job of implementing it and learning it and he’s doing a great job with it right now and he did a great job for us here."
