Pretty good assessment. Hopefully next year we will see more Williams and Tyree sets. We should have

seen more this year, but a good first season for Tyree at the same time. Williams is a very good back, the most complete we've had in a long time. Since the 90s or Darius Walker maybe?

I think he's faster than Walker but not as good of a receiver yet

Walker was really good at setting up blocks on screen plays and maximizing yards on those plays. Williams on the other hand is better than Walker ever was at maximizing what would be 2 or 3 yard gains for most backs into 5 or 6 yard gains for him. He also has better top end speed than we ever saw from Walker. His long run against Clemson was evidence of that. Not sure we've seen a back like Williams in the open field in terms of being able to juke defenders either.

Agree that Walker is the most recent comparison though.

Fun fact: Darius Walker combine 40-4.57. Dexter Williams- 4.58.

Williams ran the exact time 4.57 on his first run but also was coming off that lingering ankle injury that caused him to miss 3.5 games, he was a 10.9 guy in 10th grade so completely healthy he was about 4.44 at 214 lbs as he showed multiple times in his career! Walker ran a 4.57 after training for months for the 40 and was more like a 4.7 guy while playing for us

Forgot about DEX he would have been great. Kelly short changed ND fans with this one. Too bad.

Yeah. I agree with your points. I was talking more about Walker was the last complete back I could

recall prior to Williams. Williams definitely has a lot more to offer, but Walker was extremely productive giving his short comings. Prior to that, Denson is the last one to come to mind. That's a big gap.

I think Theo Riddick is more comparable. Especially in the open field. KW is probably couple steps..

faster. I think KW was on his way to being used more like Theo but the need at RB became to great. Glad he settled there. He's the new wave of RBs coming into the NFL. Miles Sanders, Saquon, CEH in KC, Zeke, all have that similar build and skill set. 5-9 to 5-11 200-220 squatty, shifty, half RB/half WRs with good leverage and pop but quick feet...reminds me of the Eagles Brian Westbrook. KW is as feisty as any of them...I think he HAS to get more touches on screens or circle routes and just out in the flat...its easy money and he can easily pop them for more.

It's a shame that Theo was moved around so much. He never should have been moved from RB. That was a

failed experiment that wasted talent when the team needed a good RB and he was one under Weis.

I like the Westbrook analogy but KW has a long way to go in the receiving department there

Riddick is an interesting comp too, but to me, Riddick was just such a pure receiver at the position whereas Kyren is a more natural runner to me.

I'd love to see Williams develop into a Westbrook type player, but Westbrook was so damn good in the receiving game that Williams has a long way to go there. Westrbook had four straight years over 600 yards receiving in the NFL with a 90 reception season on his resume too.

Regardless of the comp, I think we can all agree that Williams is one of the most exciting all-around running backs we've had in a long time.
