All the hype and he’s a 3-5 round NFL draft pick.

If he's a 3rd rdr, that wouldn't be so bad. Likely higher draft pos. than WRs ND used this year

I know you're making the point that his college production was low relative to the hype when he came out of high school. You're correct, but it's unfair to label him as fool's gold. He did look pretty good until injuries derailed his production, along with whatever it was that made him transfer.

He's likely to be drafted in the middle rounds. That's within his projected range while in high school, albeit on the low side. It still would have been nice for him to have played at ND

He probably will not be drafted

The kid was invisible at Georgia. If he's drafted before round seven I would be stunned given his injuries and lack of production.
OTOH he looked like a future star as a freshman at Cal. It was probably more injuries that hit him rather than being a bust.

50 catches for 767 and 7 td's his freshman year at Cal. Those are McKinley stats.

Got hurt to start his sophomore year, transferred, and then never put it together at Georgia. Very strange, the start to his career was just what you'd want from a freshman.

Never made a bit of sense to transfer to GA after having that much production anyway...goes to show how going back home can be the downfall for a collegiate athlete!! 49 rec for 513 and 3 Tds from 2017-20...smh

We made fools of ourselves by sending a tricked out 18 wheeler down to Georgia to impress him.

No, it was the football equipment truck. Very conspicuous in its markings and decoration

18-wheeler? Were they going to move him out of his house there and then?

It was an over-reach. But he just hasn’t lived up to the hype.

Quirky kid with some injuries but very pedestrian production.

Is bound to flame out more than a few times. The majority of college kids have never been out of their dad's front yard. Take them a thousand miles away, in a place where they have no parental oversight, add in the pressures and expectations of a P5 program, you're going to have problems. It doesn't matter how many stars they have after their name....

Thread Level: 4

About half of all 5 stars never live up to their hype.

Then again, about half do.

Is that accurate?

Is it about half? I honestly don't know. It would be interesting if someone went back to, say, 2017 or 2018 recruiting, identified all the five stars, then gave an update on how they've done. If I get some free time, I might give it a shot. I'm fairly lazy, though, so probably not.

Thread Level: 6

Not sure, but I'd be willing to bet that roughly half have no business even being in college

I did a preliminary look at 247 composite and it is probably pretty accurate.

At least of kids I had heard of...but I don't follow anyone other than ND really. From 2017-2020 ND has landed two 5 star players. Kyle Hamilton was the #15 prospect and Michael Mayer was the #23 prospect. I would say ND is two for two

Slightly better than a Mexican

You have to look at Rivals, the other services give out way too many 5 stars, especially scout and

31 5*s Rivals
11 entered 2021 draft
5 undrafted
8 1st round
3 2nd round
1 3rd round
1 4th round
1 5th round
0 6th round
1 7th round

So, out of 20 that have entered a draft, 55% were 1st or 2nd rounders. 20% round 3-7, 25% undrafted.

It is basically a coin flip for 5 stars to get drafted. Not a sure bet, but better than 4 stars

Without knowing what happened to the other 11, I’m not sure what conclusions can be drawn.
