Some genius from the Slap The Sign website suggested that Buchner hold a clipboard for the 2021 season.
Also, literally from Day 1, BK defined the Spring QB competition as a Coan vs. Pyne battle. Buchner need not apply.
However, we all have seen good things from Buchner's arm AND legs in the video clips. He's the best dual threat we have.
Kelly's brain needs a new coat of paint. Hasn't he learned anything from his playoff fiascos?
We need a dynamic, game-changing QB in order to play with the big boys. Only Buchner has that potential, yet he has been put on ice.
Wake up, Big Game Brian!
will change his opinion. He didn't with Book, nor with Rees over Golson. Once he latches on to a QB it takes a literal act of God to change his wrong mind.

Take that Chowder Eaters!
respect him. He can do that. I'd love to see him at QB with both Tyree and Williams in the backfield with him. Split Williams out and let him lead block on the QB option where Buchner can keep it or toss it to Tyree. That would be very tough to defend. Or a variation where they fake running a play like that and toss it over the top. Things like that make a defense prepare for something completely different and very difficult to defend.
It would get Buchner time on the field and would be a very effective wrinkle to our offense. If it turns out he's the best guy for the job, it'll be evident and he'd transition at some point in the season. If Buchner wins the competition next year, it will be invaluable experience for him. If Pyne wins the competition next year, this package for Buchner can still be utilized and effective.
30+ years. Regardless of his track record.
visit were Jacob Eason and Kyle Allen
Kelly is not putting in the work, which is why we have our current QB room
As WELL as those mentioned above.
Of talent has come thru BK and Co. He's not a great QB developer. He's a QB manager. That's why he does well with managing style QBs. Get a guy who wants to be the guy and BK will worked that out of him. Some of these QBs who would've consider ND probably not eager to deal with that.

He had a couple of good seasons in Cincy, until injuries and his addiction to painkillers ended his athletic career.
For what it's worth, I think he could have thrived at ND, had he stuck around. There's no way Tommy Rees would have beaten him out in 2013, and he would have had a couple of nice seasons to show for it.

Ron Powlus was as polished as a high school QB could be, and would have easily been ready to start from day one, if it weren't for a twice-fractured collarbone.
He was a three year starter at Berwick, which at the time was one of the top football programs in the nation.

There's no question that a developed Tyler Buchner would be the best QB we've had in a long time.
The problem is, that one hear of high school experience isn't going to make a QB ready to step into a complex offense.
Some folks might say "well, Trevor Lawrence started as a true freshman," but there's one noticeable difference...
Lawrence was a 4 year starter at QB at a powerhouse high school, and excelled against top notch competition there as well. He was already very well polished from the start.
I love Buchner's potential, and especially his attitude, but right now, he's simply not ready to play. There's no substitute for real experience.
Buchner is the QB of the future. The Irish are lucky that he doesn't HAVE to start right away. The coaching staff did a great job attracting Coan and from what I'm hearing, Pyne is doing some good things. Having said that, Buchner's HS play time means squat. He's going to be a good one.

What Kelly tells the media and what happens in practice are two very different things. There is no point in getting all worked up right now over the reps for Buchner. He has not played any organized football in over a year and that came against very weak competition in a low level in California. He's got a ton of talent, but Kelly is both taking it slow and trying to shield him from the hype from those who have anointed Buchner already,
Yes, we've seen him make some plays in the very limited practice clips, but we've also seen him throw multiple interceptions in those same clips already, Let the kid develop a little. He's played like 15 games b/c of injuries and losing his senior season.
He had a great JR season in 2019, no question, but as you point out it was against "low level" competition. People also forget that he missed his entire 2018 season (except for three or four plays) in HS because of an injury. So he played only one season since his freshman year of HS. He just hasn't had as much real game experience as most incoming freshman have had. I really like Buchner's talent, but it is not realistic, in my opinion, to think he can come in and start at a high level program as a true freshman.

Both of those things can be true.
He's got all of the raw talent in the world, but he's lacking experience because of his injuries in 2018 and then not playing in the fall. Notre Dame getting Coan for this year while Buchner learns was an ideal situation because Buchner won't be thrown to the wolves and Coan is legit enough to give Notre Dame a chance in every single game.

dual threat QB in the class. Calling him a “dream” sarcastically is unfounded. How about let the kid come in, develop and then let’s see if he’s a bust or not. Seem fair? I think so too.
this year but Vandagriff is the #1 QB and a top 10 overall recruit.
If you get the #10 QB you're recruiting like a top 20 team, not a top 5 team. Clemson, Georgia, Bama, OSU with help from the CFP has really changed recruiting, they almost have a stranglehold on the top QB prospects the past 5 years.
#399 overall recruit (247).
