Lincoln Riley is a genius at turning out great QBs. If he had Tyler Buchner, he would do the same with him. There would be none of the usual liitany of caveats: he only played one season in high school; he's had a problem with mechanics in the past; he was injured before; and we don't want to throw him to the wolves too soon.
The huge difference is coaching: Lincoln Riley is a QB whisperer; Brian Kelly is a QB Terminator.
Lincoln Smiley is not all that.

Kyler Murray and his Heisman season: While Murray was a top recruit out of Allen (Texas) High School — where he went 43-0 as a starter and won three state championships — he struggled in a muddled quarterback situation at Texas A&M and then sat out a year after transferring to OU. He spent last season as the Mayfield’s backup, only throwing 21 passes. He wasn’t officially named Oklahoma’s starter until Aug. 22.
Baker Mayfield played a year for Texas Tech and then sat out a year before starting for Oklahoma so he was in his third year of college when he became their starter.
And if Buchner was playing for Riley, the fact that he only played one season of HS football (against low level competition) and hasn't played in a year and a half would keep him from starting at OU as a true freshman. You have to know that.

It’s beside the point, though.

Hopefully he succeeds. But you might get your chance to chortle. No sure things.

Riley got them to OU. But his 2 Heisman QBs transferred to OU, after being recruited to and playing at other programs, as did Jalen Hurts. But, again, it is beside the point. What I’m saying here in response to irishize is that even with Riley’s tutelage, it would be extremely unlikely Buchner would start as a true freshman.

How many NC’s did they win? How many playoff games were they in? /
more competitive games. (Most notably double OT vs. Georgia.)
Come back when you get a coach you don't need to continually bash.

Kelly says he wants two things:
1. To graduate his players
2. To win national championships
The latter is not going to happen with PineCone. It " could " happen with Buchner, but he's not getting a fair chance.
Meritocracy supersedes all, or at least, it should.
