But the only person he's tricking is himself.
The game is not played with a fullback anymore. You really can't effectively run the ball up the middle at all. In college, you can a little but the run game is more about getting someone in space, not clustering and taking people head-on. This changed a good 15 years ago.
to play in that system.
These statements have to be some of the dumbest on here in a couple hours

I agree that the pure fullback position has been phased out of today's game, much like how wingbacks are no longer used, etc. The last time we actually used a genuine, honest to goodness, classical fullback was when Aasaph Schwap was here (God rest that behemoth's soul).
That being said, using TE's as H-backs isn't a new idea, and works quite well in today's game.
Tommy Tremble did a very fine job as a H-back in 2020, and helped pave the way for many of Kyren Williams' runs. That, plus it gave Chris Tyree another blocker to follow. It was no surprise that he took fewer hard hits at the line of scrimmage as a result of having Tommy Tremble in there to lead block for him.

We have multiple quality tight ends behind Mike Mayer, and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to play the role of H-back the same way we did for Tommy Tremble. If anything, it would enhance their chances of getting to the NFL.
I do wish that George Takacs had stayed since he could have been a good candidate for that, but given the depth we have there, I'd be perfectly comfortable making one or two of those guys play as a H-back.
If anything, I think we could have had a lot more production out of Brock Wright while he was here, had we used him in such a manner as well. Yes, I know he's now solidly on the Detroit Lions' roster, and getting good playing time, but I think he could have been so much more.
I don’t know or say much admittedly. But I have been preaching this for years. Fullback and smash mouth football is something most teams wouldn’t do well against. Please let this happen.
can't take you seriously when you bring it up.
