Picked up a copy of the 1947 Time Magazine with Lujack on the cover.

The article was about Leahy's 1947 Notre Dame team that was the elite program of the day. The article named the starters and noted that NDs 3rd string was better than most college teams in that day. ND went undefeated that year and won back-to-back National Championships.

It was a great read and history lesson of the tradition at ND.

We're in a drought here in WNY. Hopefully with Kelly gone, that too will end for ND.

Life is grand in the 'Spa. I also keep some Zweigles in the freezer and Genny in the fridge to keep the Mrs. happy.

He was a sales rep of some kind and was meeting with Purchasing Manager at the company I work at.

The PM, knowing I was an ND guy, called me over without telling me why and I recognized him immediately before I even noticed the trophy sitting in the desk.

The three of us had a nice little chat but no photos because is those days (early 80's off the top of my head) people didn't walk around with cameras in their pockets.

Pretty cool overall!

IMHO, Johnny Lujack is the greatest athlete the university ever had.

He won the '47 Heisman. Was a four year letter winner in four sports (football, baseball, track, basketball), two time unanimous All American , AP athlete of the year, led ND to three national titles. In his down time, he was in the Navy as an Ensign for two years after his sophomore season hunting down German subs in the English Channel. I used to see him a couple of games a year sitting in the north end field bleachers but I heard his travel days are now far and few because of his age. God bless Johnny Lujack. GOAT in my opinion.

It would interesting to hear Johnny's thoughts on today's athletes in the NIL world.

Lujack had already fought for his country and returned to play football at ND at the same age as the college players of today. His world experience at that age was a little bit different than today's athletes. We all could probably learn a few things from him.

100% right, ELP. Johnny is the ND GOAT, the quintessential star.
