Will Mayer and Foskie skip ND bowl game to avoid injury prior to NFL draft?

Even if ND beats UOJ the bowl game will be meaningless. Why risk injury? 12 team playoff is needed.

Late in the BC game Foskey came up hobbled and then and there I concluded: no bowl for him

If the bowl sponsors want the kids to play in the otherwise meaningless bowls, then NIL them either with big insurance policies or big paydays or both.

Otherwise, if I'm a kid potentially playing in a meaningless bowl - F that.

If that's the case, they should skip the USC game, too

Last time I checked, the bowl game counts on the ledger and figures into the final rankings...just like the USC game does.

I'm frankly tired of players skipping bowl games. This is nothing but a "Hey, look at me!" status symbol that for some weird reason has become popular among players.

I am sickened by players skipping bowl game too. It only came into focus because of Jaylon Smith

and I think it is rare a devastating injury occurs. Yes insurance policies should cover the risk and then they should play.

Sickened? It's a game. These guys are playing for their livelihood and 1 in mill opportunity. I un..

understand your feelings but as much as I love college football and ND it's not going to blind me to the opportunity these men have been practicing and playing for for YEARS.

Now NIL money and policies put in place via the NIL could help remedy this. So folks who are upset about the NIL cant be mad when it can help keep the game intact.

You cannot compare that to some second tier bowl game.

Kind of reminds me of when Rocket Ismail played for Notre Dame

I agree. Not leaving your team hanging is something I'd want in a player if I was a NFL GM. I'm not

sure Mayer will sit this out. He's certainly better talent than many that will sit out, but I could see him wanting to play for his teammates.

..when you start thinking you can game the system to control when the injury bug strikes in this sport, it's probably time to look for a new line of work.

Of course every situation is slightly different, ie I'm good with a player who is already injured and doesn't want to risk aggravating it just before going pro, Ala Kyle Hamilton, but when perfectly healthy players skip games to dodge injury I think that is bad form.

All bowls are meaningless. A potential 1st rounder playing for an NCAA title is a fool.

One hit and he loses millions. Only generational money matters. Whatever keeps these kids from that is pointless.

I certainly hope so.

I wouldn’t blame either or anyone who could get 1st round money. We shall see.
