The sixteen years from 67’ to 82’. The Irish won just twice. Then from 83’ to 95 the Irish never lost.
We seem to be in the beginning of another ND streak of winning which dates back to 2016.

Lou Holtz was simply Lou Holtz. His juggernaut teams could crush USC, and even when we were at our worst (1994, offensive line was depleted badly), we still almost knocked them off.

Pete Carroll bought a powerful team of mercenaries, which is why he could dominate everyone.

It's no surprise that once the Poodle left, that the team went downhill steadily.

Notre Dame's record against USC from 1967-82 was 2-12-2

That was very tough stretch. The only 2 wins resulted in National Championships. But Notre Dame was 0-7-1 in road games which included some really brutal losses. The loss in 70 costed them a NC, and the losses out there in 72 and 74 were devastating. And if you go back to 64, that road loss to SC also costed ND a NC.

struggled against USC and Purdue, considering how successful his career was. During his 11 years, he only lost a total of 15 regular season games and 11 of those losses were to Purdue and USC.
