It's not on Denbrock
NIU crowded the line, played a single high safety daring ND to throw. Leonard proved he couldn't handle it. He was jumpy, didn't read through his progressions before he panicked and tried a dump off. He was inaccurate and indecisive, or he just made the wrong decision (like the first interception).
Denbrock called the right plays, it was Leonard who couldn't execute them.

A call is not correct if the player is incapable of executing the call
You call plays that your quarterback can execute. It does you no good to call plays that Leonard cannot execute. Unfortunately, that limits what Denbrock can call. If the only plays Leonard can execute are handoffs, quarterback runs and short passes - that is what you have to call.

And Love averaged 7.2 yards per carry and Love averaged 6.0 yards per carry. It might have been a good idea to have given them more than 15 total carries instead of trying to make Leonard look like John Elway.
