Not one QB he mentioned had the ability to play at a really high level.

Both. The article implies that ND's offensive philosophy hamstrings their QBs and prevents them from
playing to their strengths. Thus the lousy game from RL.

I agree with that accessment.
The one constant through multiple QB's and offensive coordinators, and the maddening inconsistentcy they all have shown, is Marcus Freeman.
He's the problem.
Kind of reminds me of when Rocket Ismail played for Notre Dame

Leonard had been having issues all night, and seemed dinged up
wrdomerson 2368 postsAlthough I didn't hate the call, and Mitchell was open, a solid throw is 6 points there, your job is to put the players in a position to succeed. Asking Leonard to make that play at that point in time was not a good idea, in my opinion.

You could see he was hurting after that first drive. Yeah, he got it in the end zone but he was
beaten up badly during that drive. QB runs have to be used sparingly, they are big difference makers when successful because the damage done by them is usually bailing the team out with a key first down or when they scramble and somebody breaks open downfield. The interception throw he made was ridiculous, all he had to do was air it out where only his man could get it. Our guy was beyond the defender. Also, the throw I wish he would have made in that situation was the in between throw to a guy about 15-20 yards downfield that was wide open. There was no need for us to score early on that drive. He got greedy.

You can tell he was on the Leonard bandwagon. He's right and wrong at the same time. Yes, it is a
systemic issue at QB, but yes it is also Leonard's fault as well. He's just not a good QB.

Totally agree with this. However, I really like the part where he
exposes the major problem in Freeman's offensive philosophy. Breath of fresh air, especially coming from someone who really believed in Freeman.

The only problem in letting Riley be Riley are those errant downfield chucks for Ints. He’s not an
accurate passer and it all goes back to that. D’s don’t respect his vertical game. I don’t understand though why they didn’t let him do more with his legs in that game.

Bullshit, running QB's went out with the wishbone. They have to be able to pass, or
they don't play, end of discussion. Name a running QB who carries a team, even Navy qbs are half ass passers

I don't think so much running QBs but today's QB has to be able to make plays with his legs also.
Clemson never would have beaten Alabama without Watson or Sunshine being able to make plays with their legs too. The only way to beat the total physical dominance of teams like, Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State is to have a QB who can pass but also make key plays with his legs, even if it is only escaping for 7 yards to get critical third down conversions. Beating teams like NIU, Marshall and Stanford in 2022 though should never be a problem. A letdown can be expected now and then but not a complete emotional collapse and not believing in yourself that you will be able to come back and win somehow. A good team still wins some ugly games.

They have a killer instinct that neither Freeman nor Leonard possess.
