We need MF to succeed

As said below, MF's failure will mean ND's experiment into student-athletes/academic schools in big-time football (with a schedule perfectly constructed for success). And if MF fails, it'll be a total reboot on recruiting as well. Combined, that means ND will become less relevant in a world in which the aperture of 'competitive schools' is getting smaller and smaller. So, this is our last realistic chance to get it right.

Sadly, he has not...and personally I no longer believe he will.

Have said before that the way the landscape of college football is changing, I believe ND will have to opt out of the true "Big Time" in the not too distant future in order to save its (academic and religious) soul.

Really hoped (against hope) Freeman would rise up, learn on the job, and secure the last NC for ND before that happens.

Knew it was a tall order and a very long shot...but now feel that opportunity has completely left the building.

As always, certainly hope I am wrong...

Will still attend games...but seeing friends is really the only real reason now...

As Miyagi said: middle of road squash like bug. MF is ND’s attempt to have it all.

But deep down, we all know that the bargain basement nice guy coach isn’t going to get us to the promised land. ND wants someone who they can control who represents the university well. In so choosing, they have chosen to not truly be competitive. The golden goose is slowly dying.

Appreciate the sentiment, but I’m not so sure

The ‘experiment’ that you speak of is over. ND cannot contend in this new world of college football. Witness - Caleb Dows, SEC Freshman of the Year. He decided to leave Alabama - the ultimate football factory for sending players to the NFL and you simply cannot pump out multiple #1 recruiting classes without paying a shit ton of money - for OSU. How does this happen? It happens because OSU is seething from watching scUM win a natty and decided to do whatever it takes to build their roster.

This is D1 college football today.

I love Marcus. NIU is on him. As much as it pains me to admit this, Jack made the right call to hire him. I don’t like Jack. But we had to roll the dice. We are not getting the established great coaches to come to ND. Our margin of error is small.

I am going to three games this year and will cheer like hell. Love thee Notre Dame. But I am slowly accepting reality.

Not so sure about Marcus. But we have enough talent to be relevant especially this

year. We will not be dominant in CFB, but we can compete at a high level. That’s really what it’s all about in this environment and maybe joining a conference.

It’s a long season. The ship may still be righted for the rest of the campaign, at least I hope so. Go Irish.

Recruits are not going to stay on board for many more of these ridiculous losses, if any

I hope MF succeeds, but ball is in his court.

A lot of coaches, in year 3, would beat NIU at home.

We need a successful football coach, if that’s MF, we will find out starting this Saturday in West Lafayette.

Your assertion that it must be one guy only who our future is tied to is entirely false and I completely reject it.

Bottom line is that you can’t have a school where you change caches every 3-5 years
