At least our offense found some rhythm and the defense is playing aggressively

Still looks like a Bob Davie coached ND team.

Also, Jim Colletto as OC

Colletto tried to turn our power running-based team into a run 'n shoot / chuck 'n duck team in 1997, with predictable results...

Once he finally decided to run the damn ball, we took out ranked West Virginia and LSU teams. All of that senior talent went to waste on Colletto's whim.

Bob Davie had more competent QB play during his tenure (in general) compared to Leonard

With the exception of Eric Chappell for that truly horrible game against USC in 1998 (one we should have won running away), Davie's starting QB's usually had better production.

I really cant think of a worse QB than this one. Powlus?

Powlus could complete downfield passes

The only QB's who could be considered purely "bad"

Eric Chappell - 0 for 4, couldn't complete a pass against a suspect USC defense. Jarious Jackson was injured due to that boneheaded play when taking an intentional safety against LSU.

The loss to USC meant we lost our opportunity to get to a Bowl Coalition game and had to settle for the Gator Bowl, where Jackson was playing scared for the entire first half and part of 3Q.

Yes, Arnaz Battle, Gary Godsey, and Matt Lovecchio didn't exactly do a great job overall, but they moved the ball downfield, and with the exception of Battle's game against Nebraska (broke his wrist against TAMU the week before), they did produce results.

I'm actually a bit leery of putting Lovecchio up there, since he did a fine job in 2000, and without him, we wouldn't have made it to the Fiesta Bowl, but he did lose his mojo in 2001.
