His head and eyes were often down. He seemed like he was in agony. This was a 25 point win, but it had the feel of a 25 point loss.
He projected no sense of confidence or like he had things under control.
This is his 3rd year of doing this, so his overall demeanor is really troubling and surely not reassuring to us fans.
Almost adversarial. This is not a good look. He's supposed to be the face, the leader of the program. Win or lose. The press and fans are not to blame. He hears the chatter. So do the players. I am past the point of exonerating players for poor effort with the change of landscape in college sports. They are not exonerated in the classroom and they won't be beyond judgement in the work place. He thought the "joy" of his hiring was going to last forever.
Or at the very least he promised himself Leonard would be the starter, and now he's conflicted between breaking a promise to Leonard/himself or what's good for the team.
He might believe benching Leonard is a betrayal of sorts and he also might not be "cold-hearted" enough to do it. I wonder what Denbrock and Guidugli really think about the QB situation.
Finally, we all know there will a next time where the Leonard offense gets bogged down to the point the game is in danger. Whether Freeman has the guts to pull the trigger in that situation will be very telling whether he has what it takes or not. I'm not quite ready to throw the towel in on him just yet. Let's see how he handles the next offense-is-going-nowhere situation.

Just guessing and playing amateur psychologist, of course, but what other explanation is there?
He’s getting advice from the NIU coach, can’t motivate his players to play at home, and doesn’t appear to be doing anything year over year other than trying to keep the wheels on the bus.
He appears to be an honorable person and probably doesn’t want to walk away, but it’s probably the best thing for him & the program.
Including himself.
