We are a Louisville level team in year 3 of Freeman with a loss to a MAC team. To the kumbaya guys,

do you think that is acceptable? Maybe that’s the best we can do in this day and age.

My feeling is had Angeli started we'd be 5-0 and scoring 30 points minimum per game.

And sustaining drives. A large part of this is on coaching and having the balls to make a move.

He can throw a ball downfield and is a better runner than given credit for. Also been a loyal ND guy

I think we'd have the same record but loss would be to A&M instead of NIU.

Depends on OL IMO...

If you put Angeli behind a stout pass blocking OL where he could use his mobility selectively instead of out of necessity then I think he'd be great.

Angeli is the better passer and when given time I think he's the better QB, but in the limited exposure we've had Angeli decision making falls off quickly when pressured (which is likely more about experience than ability). The problem is we don't have a stout pass blocking OL, so despite his obvious deficiencies RL may be the best guy for what we're currently dealing with.

Having said that, in the next game RL is struggling and we're in danger of losing I think you HAVE to give Angeli a go.

But Ive seen enough from RL's passing to know Angeli is better at that.

Same old story. If the stars align, we’re a top 10 team; if they don’t we’re top 25.

Once every 15 years, we’re a top 5 team.

Since the Davie era, we’ve had a hard time lining up our offensive & defensive talent. We either have D bailing out a mediocre offense, of O saving an above average but not great defense.

Not once have we had a great D and great O.

And I’ll add with Freeman that while his recruiting class rankings are good, his on-field product isn’t outperforming Kelly his last 5 years.

So, I’d say this is what ND is willing to do and no more. It’s the Chicago Cubs mantra. Do enough to keep the suckers coming back and nothing more.

SEC has 4 of top 5 and 9 in top 25... which roughly coincides with their recruiting rankings.

Only one (ND) of the AP top 25 is ranked in the top 25 academically.

The 1980's are in the distant past and there is too much money involved in making the NF to waste time earning a degree.

Oh... and OSU might just as well be an SEC school.

So YES! This is the best we can hope for.

Bri’s unranked shitshows that may be a tad high. My point is wasn’t Marcus hired to change that, mainly through recruitment? I fully supported bringing him on and now also fully acknowledge it was a mistake.

Last year, thin on skill. This year, thin at OL, a fact injuries have magnified.

Thin at OL so the QB gets the most carries over Love …

Thin at OL so the QB can’t hit an open receiver in the flats …

Thin at OL so the QB can only read one receiver …

These are excuses. The OL is in fact young and thin, I agree but the QB is one dimensional either way. And if the coaches really believes they wanted to run first then JLove would have more carries this week than RL.

So how do we explain the losses to Marshall, Stanford, and NIU in the Freeman era?

Even the MASH unit of a solid team should win those easily. Not getting the job done. Even the board owner pointed out the unforgivable nature of the NIU loss for Freeman

NIU was on Freeman. Stanford on Freeman, P12 refs & Kelly's QBs. Marshall mostly on Kelly QBs.
