What really bothers me about our passing game is .....

All of the flat passes. Why can't we hit Love or a TE moving downfield. So the defense doesn't just tee off on a guy who is standing still waiting for the ball. It just makes no sense to throw that flat pass when the defense is baiting you to do it and sitting on it. At least be more creative and sneak the guy out there after a faux block or something. Those are about as effective as running your QB into a 9 man box.

I get the oline stinks, but how about a slant? Or a comeback or curl?

That we have no passing game? I don't think ND has thrown a slant since Raki Nelson.

The QB has to throw the ball

The play called can have a variety of routes but the QB throws it where he wants to

It’s called a post or a flag route rather than a drag

Je's talking about swing passes, and short curls and how they predominate, and he's right. From what I see, the QB isn't comfortable sitting in the pocket and going through progressions. Crossing routes would work fine, given that opponents are crowding the line of scrimmage, but the QB has to make the effort to be patient and to then throw an accurate ball. Leonard has time, he just gets jumpy and isn't confident in his ability to put the ball where it needs to be.

And, in my view, the O line is not playing poorly. It's nothing that a better QB couldn't solve.

It’s been a very long time since we the downfield in the middle of the field.

It’s almost like it’s been designated a no fly zone by the coaches

Thread Level: 3

Don't forget when you throw in the middle there is more defensive players in the way. The crossing

patterns are often the most available to beat a man one on one, or the deep sideline route. If Leonard would have been let loose against Louisville it was possible he was going to have a big game. He was off to a very good start.

Totally agree about the TE. Mitchell Evans should be handed M. Mayer's role. 8 targets / 6 catches.

...at least. One more receiver to worry about. Plus punishing RAC yardage.

Mitchell is not nearly as fast as Mayer was. The knee set him back further. I'm still waiting for

Eli Raridon to bust out.

Thread Level: 4

Thx for the tip on Raridon. If he's destined to be the next man up at TE U, the sooner the better..
