Freeze promised him that he would start. ND will not do that (nor any serious program).

Whatever he told him about building a dynamic offense must have worked. Foo Foo Dust or not.

No, that was the deal breaker. ND would not promise that (nor should they ever for several reasons)

Same way Jimbo saved his job by overpaying recruits. That worked out well for all involved.

In 2 years half those kids will be playing elsewhere and Hugh will be working in a broadcast booth.

This is a solid prediction.

He may have won some favor with the Auburn faithful

There's no doubt that the Auburn faithful are quite happy at Hugh Freeze pulling off this flip.

I also believe that, in good time, Hugh Freeze could very well put forth a very good offense.

The question is, does he have enough time to do so?

Bringing in the talent isn't going to save your job if you've been putting forth substandard years, even if those were a result of the previous coach's pool of talent (he blamed Harsin's recruiting a few days ago at a press conference). Even then, the talent that Bryan Harsin brought in wasn't exactly chopped liver. He brought in two classes that were around #20 overall.

They let him have a mulligan for last year's awful season, and could very well let him have another one this year, assuming he manages to finish with at least an above 0.500 record, but what about next year? Three bad years in a row almost always means a death sentence for a head coach at a big time football program.

Can you count on a true freshman to give you that big time boost? Players the likes of Trevor Lawrence are in a class all by themselves, that they came in already very polished and have a ridiculously high ceiling. I don't see Knight being nearly as polished, and that he'd need a bit of time to get into the swing of things.
