it's about more than wins and losses against a so/so schedule...need to look impressive, too. NIU

is backbreaker, and ND really needed to win by 35 against Miami.

Thread Level: 3

Agree. But even blowouts against Army / Navy will be heavily discounted as credibily gains.

If the pundits watch ND play, I don't blame them.

They're not very good.

Kind of reminds me of when Rocket Ismail played for Notre Dame
Invincibility with no vulnerability

ND viewed as a pretender. Penn St. should be too. Can't see them as #4

There are only 3 teams that are not pretenders

OSU, Georgia and Alabama. Every single other team is more likely to wilt over the season and 4 game playoff run.

Had ND retained Alt and Fisher for their senior seasons, then we would have been the fourth team in that group- but we didn’t …and then we had multiple, critical injuries on the OL and DL

We have as good a shot as any team beyond them.

In an earlier era Alt and Fisher would still be here

Do you mean before 1990 when underclassmen were allowed to enter? Alt needed to go pro

I am not sure if you are implying that other coaches would have convinced them to stay, but if you are I don't think that is the case at all.

Alt was Top-5 pick.

Fisher might have improved his draft position, but was a 2nd rounder. Career earnings potential probably higher by leaving a year early and being able to focus 100% on football.

Thx Agree on your analysis. ND as pretender based on sparse signature win record, not roster talent.

We have a top 5 defensive team and a top 30 (not even) offensive

Team. We are 4-1 because of our defense. Leonard is average at best which is causing a significant underperformance by our WRs and TEs. Due to injuries we have an average at best OL. Our RBs are the only shining light on offense. We would be in serious trouble if we played any of the teams in the top 10.

Top 30? Based on practice reports?

That’s all u need.

We have to hang in beating TAMU right now. That’s all we got and may have.

Thread Level: 2

Losing to a MAC team at home will do that.

It goes beyong NIU, though that might have been the next to the last nail in the coffin. These dudes had better self motivate and play big boy football this Saturday instead of their growing old routine of fumbles, bumbles, and slow play. This is on them and the staff. Not the fans. Not the gray hairs. Not the sit downers. Not sure the fans inside the stadium want to do anything to encourage that screaming lady during time outs or the blaring hip hop on the Jumbo by Mr DJ. All the action and success is on the field. Just my opinion from an old guy.
