I don’t agree with throwing the ball at that point. Totally a Paternoesque move with less than 2

minutes in the game. Remember JoePa doing that against Rutgers, and the Rutgers coach asked him after it was over if he had money on the game. And it was the back up QB at the time. No problem with giving Angeli reps and throwing the ball after the delay. But at that point just run the feckin ball. They prolly score anyways.

Players that don't get many game reps deserve to be able to play the game

Backup QBs shouldn't be relegated to doing nothing but handing the ball off. Receivers shouldn't be limited to doing nothing but blocking. As a coach, I am more insulted by the other team taking pity on my team. Let them play the game and run a somewhat normal offense. Different story if they are throwing it all the time or if it was still the first team in the game but that was not the case. If a baseball team is up by 10 runs should the backups that are batting go up to the plate and not swing the bat or try to get a hit? Should they just stand there, take three strikes and walk back to the bench so that they do not run up the score? These kids who do not get much playing time work their asses off in practice and shouldn't be relegated to merely handing the ball off.

1. It wasn't less than 2 min, it was right at 2 min warning 2. Stanford was still playing hard...

they were calling timeouts, going for 4th downs (not punting like a team that has conceded a game) they had 5 or 6 guys at the line trying to stuff the run on that play

3. We got the ball back with 4:46 after their failed 4th down attempt and held the ball the rest of the game without scoring (though in scoring position) and ran the ball every play except for one

4. We played all backups the entire 4th quarter

Yes, we could have kicked a FG to go over 50 or scored a TD to put it over 55..

the notion we were running it up is preposterous.

By comparison with Clemson, we were up 42-7 at end of 3rd and pulled starters...score 7 after that.

Clemson was up 27-7 at end of 3rd vs Stanford and scored 13 points in the 4th quarter WITH their starters still in.

No, 2s & 3s were in all quarter. They learn from running our actual offense.

an incomplete pass at the 2:00 mark...this was not a run up the score situation.

We played backups the entire 4th quarter. If we wanted to run up the score we could have put 60-70 points on the board.

I doubt he's a fan at all. He reminds me of the "Republicans for Harris" or "Alpha Males for Harris" political groups, full of fecal matter.

If it were something like 70 points scored on our part, I could see it being excessive, since that's what Paterno, Bowden, Jimmy Johnson, etc., did to woo the voters in that era.

Or, if we would have done an onsides kick after one of the 4 TD's in the 2nd half, I could see that as pouring salt on a wound.

Scoring about 50 points against a team that almost knocked off TCU, and did beat a decent Syracuse team isn't running up the score. We scored about as much as we did in the 1st half (even with the fumble) as we did in the 2nd half. That, plus it was important that we get the 2nd string offense some passing plays, since Steve Angeli is literally one play away from having to step in and command the offense.

Seriously, what does that caller want us to do? Take three kneeldowns each possession and then punt away? Punt on 3rd down? Put in our scout teamers?

Besides, it's not ND's job to keep the score down. That's Stanford's job.

Bobby Bowden said something like this to Lou back when Lou was complaining about Bowden running up the score. Lou said something on the order of how it was Bobby's job to keep the score down, but Bobby said "No, that's YOUR job."

Don't bother watching video. ND didn't run up score vs Stanford. Starters were out whole 4Q

The stakes are too high in CFB to not take advantage of the time to run your normal offense with backups.

Besides, they only scored 1 TD in 4Q. It's not like they were trying to hang a hundred.

Let others decide if they want to watch. Maybe someone agrees though I doubt it.
