It is hysterical. Both Chicago sports talk radio stations and callers sounding worse than us after our loss to NIU. They are saying that the Bears loss yesterday will be incredibly hard to come back from. They are asking how the Bears play like this right after a bye. One caller asks Bears fans not to blame the OLman who fumbled the ball at the one or the Bears DB who was talking dirt to the fans four seconds after the last play started then promptly tips the ball upward but, instead, blame the staff for putting these players in this position. That train of thought might, maybe, wiill work in college but not in the NFL. A professional NFL player acting out his playground / HS days desrves zero tolerance. The coaches didn't teach this dude how to mug in front of the crowd. He did it all on his own.
Tyrique Stevenson was taunting the crowd while the ball was being snapped on that fateful play. He didn't even cover the guy catching the tipped ball, something you're supposed to do when you're playing that kind of a prevent the Hail Mary defense...
Still, it shouldn't have come down to trying to defend a last second Hail Mary.
The bigger blame goes to Caleb "Fingernails" Williams. He foolishly took a sack instead of simply throwing away the ball, that pushed them out of field goal range. He also lost that fumble on the exchange on another drive. That, plus he stunk up the field with his passing performance, going 10-24, while taking off running right as a receiver was breaking wide open.
