So he's right, all five losses are by one score. On the other hand ... not exactly the "Fight On" standard

Pretty sure we both picked 11-1 due to ease of schedule.

USC is about what I expected though. You don't lose a #1 pick QB and switch to playing many games across country in the same year and get better.

With that, I still expected our 1 loss to come vs A&M or USC, not F'ing NIU.

..the USC loss may still occur. I prefer playing them when we both have something to lose, but I'm hoping their fans just don't come out and we completely take over their stadium.

Nicely done. It’s an example of ragging on ND while rooting for them - it’s a security blanket.

If they lose, he can say that he knew they were smoke and mirrors all along. If they win, he can say, “where did I ever say that they wouldn’t succeed”.

Very insecure.

Didn’t know you were a psychologist.

Not sure how old you are but suspect we are close.

36 years since we won an NC

A lot of disappointment.

Also it’s pollyanas like you that make people hate Notre Dame. Typically overrated and that’s why they hate us as well.

Let’s make the playoff which I believe is a 60/40 likelihood and then not get embarrassed like usual.

I think it all comes down to how things are presented...for example

I want ND to make the playoffs, I'll be happy if they do, I'll pull for us to win games in the playoff, and hope that happens...I won't think because we make it in we're going to win it all, but I'll hope we get some bounces and be happy if we do.

I carry myself as if i want the things above...I'm very clear in representing everything above, as in this is what I'm hoping for. But I still look at things realistically...realistically when you look at all the current resumes and compare the Pros ND has done some things and only a few teams have more Pros, but we also have a glaring Con...we aren't the only team with a strong Con, ours is just the strongest.

While I'm not a betting man, if I had to bet straight up if I think we make the playoffs, I'd probably lean towards no right now not because of our resume but because I think MF has another loss in him still..and I think it will be at USC. I'll be happy to be wrong, but that's what I think right now.

Now if the question turns to 'what if they win out?' then that's easy, they're in and it's a no brainer imo as I think our chances of being in at 11-1 would be over 99% with about a 60% chance of hosting a game.

If MF drops another game to go 10-2 in the regular season and most certainly misses the playoffs...I'll be highly disappointed based on what coulda/should been. I'll be super pissed off after whatever game he loses, I'll talk my shit about him until I calm down.

But, if he's able to win whatever shit bowl we play in to go 11-2. When I go back and make my level headed post season assessment, he would be 9-4, 10-3, and 11-2 in his first 3 years ever being a HC...a reasonable man has to look at that as progress, even if frustratingly slow process still progress.

We almost always...almost!.!...always aren't that far off. We agree on way more things than we disagree on...WAY!

We do present things differently (tone wise I'dsay), but that's ok....I look at it kinda like we are both standing right in the middle (or close to it) with our backs to each other, you looking towards the negative side and me looking towards the positive side, but we're both still in the middle.

It's ok for us to disagree sometimes...you like to be right and so do I. But I do respect you and your opinions even when I don't like or agree with them. Like you, I like to provide info or make statements that I think support my viewpoint...but I'm not opposed to having my mind changed by someone I respect (like you) if you make a point that makes me go 'hmm, I didn't consider that'.

The post about the SEC team records...I'm sorry! I literally no BS didn't read that and think 'he's talking about by the end of the season'

I thought with the context of that thread surrounding thoughts on what the playoff ranking will look like we we're talking current resumes of the teams in contention, that's it, nothing else to it...that's why I came in that way.

still in it if we win every game type of attitude. We scraped by a couple of teams and really scraped by Clemson late in the season. Of course back then it was bowl selection process that was used and when the top bowl based on team ranking could pick their opponent. That process of course, benefited us by giving us the opportunity to play number 1 Texas. A few teams lost including number 2 Oklahoma to an outmanned, but Lou Holtz coached Arkansas team. We had played our best game of the year and overwhelmed a loaded Texas team led by the great Earl Campbell. We ended up number 1 and played only slightly above good in the regular season leading up to the Cotton Bowl but saved the best for Texas on national TV. We passed everyone going from 5 to 1. Amazing!

There are & for the most part they reside on NDN where interestingly, they use the exact same term.

"Pollyanna's". Yes, i know that they did not make up the term, but it is still an interesting coincidence.

I am not a PollyAnna, but I am also not a ChickenLittle.
I am not a Swarbrick lover nor am I a Swarbrick hater - I see him as a mixed bag. (People over there at NDNation tend to have a constantly negative attitude and refer to anyone who does not hate Swarbrick as a PollyAnna).

There is not one person here who is unaware that we lost to NIU. It was an inexcusable loss to explain to Notre Dame fans. However, as we have learned from the CFP committee, they look at how much a team has improved and have also mentioned the "eye test" very conveniently on many occasions. So it is NOT an unexplainable loss to the CFP, if it is the only one.
Notre Dame would destroy NIU if they could play them again. It was a let down game, but also, ND has improved markedly since then. (esp Riley Leonard after having missed the entire Spring and summer camps with an injury, and this does not even include improvement of the OL).

ND had a good schedule made for 2024 which included 1)Texas A&M away, 2)Louisville at home, 3)FSU at home, 4)Miami at home, and 5)USC away.
Miami reneged on the game and paid an penalty fee in order to avoid the tough game
FSU surprisingly fell completely apart after going undefeated in the regular season last year and being ranked in the top 4.
USC has lost 5 games - they lost to UM by 3 in Ann Arbor, MN by 7 at MN, PSU by 3 in OT, and UW by 5.

It is clear that any weakness in the schedule was not a foreseeable event for which blame should be assigned. I get sick when other fans say this stuff. I certainly don't expect it from our own fans (except on the acidic NDNation site).
I like you Woodstock, but the criticism is unfair.

loss ever by us. Everybody knows this but we are still in position to get in playoffs and we are playing our best ball of the year. Who the hell does not want to be optimistic even if we have a chance only, it is a chance. I remember USC was co national champ with two losses one year. We could lose one of the next four but if we win we are in. If we can perform like the last few weeks we could surprise and go further. Only two or three teams are better than us potentially, if we play to our best potential. Only Oregon, Georgia and Ohio State probably better and IMO opinion, two of their QBs look shaky.

They have top tier skill players.

Their lines aren't doing so well, though, especially after Bear Alexander decided to opt out for the rest of the season.

We just need to play our game, grind them into the dirt, and all will be well.
