Thus started our continuous 36 years wandering the desert in search of a national title. At the time, I was unaware of the Admissions department and administration’s power play in the years previous which meant no more Chris Zorich and Tony Rice cases. My dad and I still talk about Pete Bercich dropping an interception from Glenn Foley. How much different would it have been, had Notre Dame won out? Would Holtz have coached longer? I still think the result probably would have been similar, just different faces.31 years without a title versus 36.

Sorry...had to say it.

So I can't speak for the other Services (though I'd assume it's similar) but in the Marine Corps there is a trend of young Marines right out of boot camp or A-school meeting "The One" and getting married way too young against the advice of everyone in their command.

These typically fail miserably, don't last long, and serve no purpose other than teaching what NOT to do.

In the same line of 'if the Marine Corps wanted you to be married, we'd issue you a wife' these are sometimes referred to as practice wives.
